Smooth is safe
Brake, accelerate and steer more gently than usual, and start braking earlier. Double your following distance.
Watch the surface
- Painted road markings, metal covers and oil patches get very slippery when wet.
- The first rain after a dry spell brings oil to the surface, so be especially careful.
- Avoid flooded roads. You can't see how deep the water is or what's underneath.
Stay seen, stay dry
Wear bright or reflective waterproofs and keep your visor clean. If visibility gets too poor, find a safe place to wait it out.
