Walk around the bike
- Tyres: pressure, tread depth, and any cuts, bulges or nails.
- Controls: levers move freely, the throttle snaps back when released, cables aren't frayed.
- Lights: headlamp, tail light, brake light and indicators all work. So does the horn.
- Oil and fuel: enough of both, and no leaks underneath.
- Chain: correctly tensioned and lubricated.
- Stands: side stand and centre stand spring up fully.
If something's wrong, don't ride
A problem that is minor in a car park becomes serious at speed. Fix it first, or ask your instructor or a trusted mechanic.
