Leave yourself space
Keep at least a two-second gap to the vehicle ahead, and more in the rain or at night. Space is time, and time lets you react.
Stay visible
- Ride with your headlamp on.
- Stay out of drivers' blind spots. If you can't see their mirrors, they can't see you.
- Take extra care at junctions and bends, where you are hardest to see.
Ride predictably
- Signal clearly and early before pulling out, turning or changing lanes.
- Avoid weaving or squeezing between vehicles.
- Watch for buses and tricycles that stop suddenly to pick up passengers.
- Respect speed limits. In built-up areas the Highway Code limit for motorcycles is 50 km/h.
